LED is light emitting diode not liquid crystal display

“Because the layers inside the display that emit the light are made of organic compounds (ie, contain carbon.)” – Searched for ‘why are OLED called organic? and got that result from yahoo.

an oled is just leds, they make the colour and light,
“led” is leds and an lcd, the lcd makes the colour and the leds make the light
AtariMaxiToriyama posted: 13 Mar at 6:24 am
An LED is LEDs behind an LCD display. An OLED is essentially, it seems, a greater number of LEDs so that each LED is responsible for only a single pixel.

Got a monitor for christmas, so hopefully my next monitor upgrade will be a 4k oled. That would be my ultimate dream!
Baba Wethu posted: 13 Mar at 6:24 am
It will lol. It really is a dream-technology. It will have better color than plasma. And in the future, they might be cheaper than TN-panels too
frostin1990 posted: 13 Mar at 6:24 am

i understand the different types, it’s just a bad naming system
shiftynaps posted: 13 Mar at 6:24 am
Lcd displays cannot light up pixels by theirself, so they need backlighting, and leds are mostly used for this. Oled displays light up pixels by theirself, so they don’t need backlighting. Because of this oled devices can be made super thin. Hope this helped:)

OLED isn’t that awesome. Google: OLED black spots.
